The greater part of power distribution companies have recommendations that discourage commercial and industrial customers for failing to maintain power factor above a specific threshold (usually above 0.90 value) in order to best maximise the use of available power. Reactive power consumption should be reduced or eliminated, i.e., power factor should be unity. However, the power factor is either lagging or leading due to reactive power drawn by capacitive or inductive loads in the consumer premises. This means that the capacitors (for lagging PF) or reactors (for leading PF) are connected across the system to maintain it within the limit, i.e., for compensating or supplying the required LV APFC Panel. For stable load the fixed LV APFC Panel compensation is required, while for variable load the KVAR requirement also changes as per the load duration cycle, thus in such case the Automatic Power Factor Control Panel is installed.
